they do their job – If you are having issues with old wiring(2wires) on your house and your heat system have a C-wire port in the mainboard this adapter works perfectly for you… if your mainboard doesn’t have a C-wire terminal then you should go for another expensive options as getting a 3rd gen google nest thermostat with a 24V transformer for example

Does exactly what it’s supposed to do – This NEST thermostat add on is for situations where the so called “C” wire from the HVAC unit is not run to the thermostat location. This device gets around the situation and causes the thermostat to function normally. Works perfectly (at least on my system!).

Mixed feelings – This is something that I needed to run my Google nest thermostat. But you can get one free from Google if you buy a nest. I paid for this one. When I installed the thermostat it offered to send me one free. So this company charges you for no reason. Product dose do as it says so thats fine. Forced hot air oil with red and white wires only

Check your thermostat version – As a product, this is similar to the other Nest products. Good quality, nicely packaged, well thought out and clear instructions, and even the quality of the supplied wire connectors was great. I recently purchased two Google Nest learning thermostats as part of a PSEG promotion, to replace old 2-wire thermostats controlling a hot water baseboard system with Taco zone valves. While the thermostats worked sorta, it was clear that without a common wire, the thermostats were unreliable. So I hoped that this Power connector would help, but after installing and following instructions, things just worked the same way as before. I then realized that the new Learning Thermostats that I had just bought were v2, and this power connector only works with v3 learning thermostats.

Use this to replace an old Mercury Honeywell thermostat – I replaced an old Honeywell mercury thermostat (2 wires, no C) connected to a Taco controller using (1) this adaptor, (2) a 24V transformer and, NOTABLY, (3) the original old wiring (2 wires). The trick is to read the advanced instructions for the Nest connector when (a) no C connection is available (b) a 24V transformer is used (c) you use two wires. The NEST Connector advanced directions instruct you to remove an internal jumper, wire the thing to the 24 V and other wires, and voila. So far (4 weeks) my Nest learning thermostat is charging, so I am happy with this :-). Though I believe this was a little bit expensive for what it is, the clear instructions and the use of the two old wires make it worth IMHO.
