A great update for my home – I moved into a new place, but all of the smoke alarms were outdated. I got these as they are a combo. both smoke and carbon monoxide detector. A good value for the money.

Decent Detector with 1 Small Problem – This detector was easy to install except for 1 small problem. It has 2 red tabs in the battery compartment that must be pressed down to install the battery. The tabs are so long though that they catch on the battery compartment cover and it gets hung up. I was forced to cut the tabs in order to open the compartment and install the batteries.

Replaced 7 year old same model – This worked perfectly for me. I am required to have a wired CO2 alarm in my building. Found the exact item I had which had failed (It was seven years old). I was able to just plug this in and it fit perfectly. I didn’t have to have an electrician rewire it. I looked up the lifetime of this item and it says 7-10 years.

Battery compartment- ugh! – So I had to hire an electrician to install this because I couldn’t figure out the hard wiring. That said, I cam hone tonight to a beep every 20 seconds or so? I tried hitting the test button, but that didn’t stop the beeping. Thinking the battery was starting to die, I opened the little compartment per the directions but it wouldn’t go past a certain point, making the battery almost impossible to get out. I used a butter knife to get it out, causing the metal prong that acknowledges the plus side of battery to bend. The unit continued to beep, and was now giving a low battery message too. Ugh! I finally called the 800 number on the Kidde website. The woman told me that to change the battery you have to unscrew the entire unit, unplug it from the hardwire, make sure the red lever is flat to put in the new batteries. My question??: why make a cheap compartment door if you hv to remove the entire unit? And why dont the directions state that? And since they don’t state the need to take the entire unit off the mount in the directions, and there’s a possibility of breaking the battery section, that’s on them for a terrible design and lack of clear directions. If i had not been able to fix the bent metal prong , they would not replace.shame on them. Not sure what is out there that’s better, but companies should stand behind their products and acknowledge design flaws and poorly written directions
